SVBCC Skyline Wildflower Drive – In Memory Of Michael Brittingham

MICHAEL’S SKYLINE WILDFLOWER TOUR
Saturday, April 25th (rain date May 2nd)
Sponsor: Sean O’Malley
The Skyline Drive is a 105-mile National Parkway that runs the entire length of the Shenandoah
National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, generally along the ridge of the
mountains. It is a two-lane road that has 75 overlooks providing views of the Shenandoah
Valley to the west and the Piedmont to the east.
In 2015, club member Michael Brittingham suggested a Spring tour from the southern entrance
at Rockfish Gap up to Skyland to take in the views and wildflowers. In tribute to Michael, who
recently departed, this tour is a chance to escape to the mountain tops and soak up the beauty
of it all!
WHEN: April 25th, 2026 (rain date May 2nd) 9:00 AM; departure at 9:30
WHERE: Meet near the Rockfish Gap (South Entrance) East of Waynesboro, VA off Highway 250
– Gather at the old Howard Johnson’s parking lot off Howardsville Tpke. (RockfishGap/Afton).
Close to where Route 250 and Howardsville Tpke meet.
Enter Skyline Drive at Rockfish Gap Entrance Station. Proceed about 64 miles north to Skyland
with multiple viewing points along the way.
– If you live along the skyline and want to join us at another intersection, please let me know
so that we can be on the lookout for you and slow down.
Arrive at Skyland for lunch around 11:30 – 12:00 – more views, and good company.
Maybe kick a few tires too.
