SUMMARY:SVBCC Chicken Run Drive & Dine with Sam Koogler
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Sam Koogler \nIt’s time\, once again\, for a South Valley Chicken Run! For those of you who haven’t joined in the past\, it’s a fun 1.5 (approx) hour drive ending at the Koogler’s with a “bring something to share” picnic under the apple tree in the 2 acre back yard (lots pf parking room so be sure to come). \nMain dish is supplied; BarBCued chicken from the Raphine Volunteer Fire Department\, some of the best in the region. Drinks will also be provided. \nSoooo…bring a side or a salad and a lawn chair and enjoy the country air and wonderful food. Minimum batch from the fire dept is 50 halves so I need LOTS of folks to eat it! I still have some in the freezer from the last time. \nWe’ll meet at the Sheetz in Fishersville at Exit 91 of I-64 at 10 AM. Leave at 10:15. The drive will be about 1.5 hours of mostly back country roads. If you can’t make the drive\, join us at the house at 5160 Borden Grant Trail in Fairfield a little before noon. It’s only 5 minutes from the Raphine exit of I-81. \nOh\, BTW as an added attraction\, that is the weekend of the Raphine Fire Dept carnival. So if you want to extend the enjoyment\, you can go there from the picnic! \nSee you then! \nSam Koogler

SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Pkwy Drive to Bedford & D-Day Memorial Tour (SVBCC Event)
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 11 (Sunday\, July 12 rain-date)\nAfton Mountain parking area\nFor 9:30 a.m. departure \nNothing like a summer drive on the Blue-Ridge Parkway. On Saturday July 11\, we’ll plan to meet on Afton Mountain in the old Howard Johnson’s parking lot for a 9:30 departure. We’ll take a leisurely\, approximately 2 hour (85 mi.)\, drive down the beautiful Blue-Ridge Parkway\, stopping at one or two overlooks on our way to the Peaks of Otter restaurant for lunch. \nAfter lunch\, there are three very interesting sites you can visit in or near the town of Bedford if you wish. We won’t do these as an organized group\, but you can visit the one(s) that interest you. They are all worth seeing. Tickets should be purchased at the individual site(s). \n• Bedford Boys Tribute Center\nMuseum dedicated to the story of the “Bedford Boys” who sacrificed so much for the country on D-Day\, with artifacts.
